Real-world impact
Released for free across every major platform ten days before the 2016 U.S. election, the film reached 60 million viewers and became arguably the most-watched documentary in history at the time. Over 50 college campus screenings doubled as voter registration events in partnership with Rock the Vote and theSkimm. The film featured NASA astronaut Piers Sellers in his final public climate advocacy before his death in December 2016, and the production pioneered the practice of paying a voluntary carbon tax to offset its own emissions.
